The Board of Commissioners extended temporary moratoriums on data centers and anaerobic bio-waste facilities through January 29, 2027. This pause allows the county to draft strict ordinances protecting community interests and preserving the area's agricultural zoning.

Leaking anaerobic bio-waste into a lake or a body of water that flow into a lake can act as a potent fertilizer, introducing high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus. Combined with summer temperatures and sunlight, this triggers rapid cultural eutrophication, fueling massive and potentially toxic algal blooms (cyanobacteria) Cyanobacteria, commonly referred to as blue-green algae, is exactly what bloomed in Lake Allatoona. (Not saying they are connected, but we NEED to be watching our environment.)

Citizens can attend Gordon County Planning & Zoning Commission meetings in person on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.. The meetings are held in the Assembly Room of the Gordon County Judicial Building, located at 101 S. Piedmont Street, Calhoun, GA 30701.
