The Pickens County Health Department facility in Jasper remains temporarily closed for professional mold remediation, with services routed to neighboring counties.
Local Government and Administration
Marshal's Office Dissolution
County commissioners voted to dissolve the county marshal's office and transfer its duties following the chief marshal's resignation. This is okay as long as Gainesville maintains their Marshall or this sub-office hires someone. It is a federal position governed by federal courts. The primary Marshall’s office is in Atlanta, but Deputy Marshalls are needed for federal courts to run effectively in regards to protecting judges, transporting prisoners, executing federal warrants, etc.
Citizens can participate with Pickens County BoE by attending open monthly meetings, submitting written requests to speak during open sessions, and reviewing proposed policy changes.

Legal county residents must submit a Public Participation Request Form or email the superintendent's administrative assistant by 6:00 p.m. the day before the meeting.
